On December 6–7 and 13–14, the Open Air Museum of Lithuania invites you to the Advent Town, which will traditionally shine with warmth and coziness. The first weekend of Advent will awaken the spirit of Christmas anticipation in the town and invite you to stop by – to be together, talk and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of preparation for the holidays.
In the town’s cottages, craftsmen, creators and artisans will teach you how to make Christmas decorations, and bakers will bake gingerbread and traditional „kūčiukai“. Those who are curious will be able to find out what the traditional Christmas Eve table was like, what customs and fortune-telling accompanied this time of waiting.
In the church, visitors will be treated to a story “The Tradition of Christmas Carols in Lithuania and Around the World”, a gift for the Christmas table, and on Sunday – a Holy Mass with Advent hymns.
Crackling bonfires and herbal tea in the square will create coziness and warmth. There will also be a bustling market with delicious delicacies: cheeses, nuts, herbalist teas and fatty herring in a barrel.
In the town square, you will meet colorful market traders – witty “swindlers”, herring and fur sellers, an egg seller and a lottery without losses. There will be no rush here – only smiles, fun people’s chatter and a real spirit of anticipation of interwar Advent, inviting you to return to the time when Advent was a time of community, waiting and light.
Want to make it to the market? Hurry up – it will be open until 3 pm, and handicraft workshops in the huts – until 5 pm.
On December 6 Žemyna Trinkūnaitė will perform with a band, filling the town with festive light with „kanklės“ (Lithuanian string instrument) and voices.
Visitors are also invited to visit the town’s new exhibition “Universal Interwar Craftsman’s Workshop”, where they will be able to find out what the photo studio looked like, take a picture there, sit in a barber’s chair or look into the watchmaker’s room – as if to stop time for a moment.
Dear townspeople, come with sleighs, carts or cars, bring bags for the fair and good mood!
