This EXHIBITION OF TWO is an exhibition of the works of two talented Vilnius artists – Algirdas Sakalauskas and Anatolijus Ščiogolevas – a traditional and at the same time new result of the fruitful cooperation between the Lithuanian Museum of Ethnography and the Lithuanian Folk Artists’ Union (LTS).
From July 4, a new exhibition can be viewed at the fire shelter of the museum town, where visitors will undoubtedly be captivated by the works of these two authors, who have mastered two capricious painting techniques – watercolor and pastel – extremely sensitive, delicate and somewhat romanticized ethnographic landscapes and still lifes.

Anatolijus Ščiogolevas
Born and raised in Vilnius. While studying in secondary school, he graduated Vilnius four-year children’s art school, where the basics of art were taught by famous Lithuanian artists Ignas Budrys, Igoris Piekuras, Antanas Kmieliauskas and other personalities.
After graduating the Faculty of Construction of the Vilnius Engineering and Construction Institute (now Gediminas Technical University), he obtained the specialty of an engineer-constructor. He worked in the field of glass-metal structures, and devoted his free time to his hobby – drawing and painting.
He especially liked watercolor painting, uses the old classical technique. The themes are very diverse – urban and rural landscapes, nature scenes, still lifes, flowers. He is a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists Union and the Lithuanian Folk Art Creators Association, belongs to the art studio “Paletė”, the artists’ club “Plekšnė”, he was granted the status of an Artist.
He actively participates in group exhibitions (over 50), and has held 25 solo exhibitions.
Algirdas Sakalauskas – an active member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists Union and the Lithuanian Folk Art Creators Association. Born in 1948 in a family of exiles, in the Nizhny-Udinsk district of the Irkutsk region. He finished primary school in exile. In 1958, after the family returned to Lithuania, he studied at the Garliava secondary school. After graduating, he studied mechanical engineering at the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute. Later, while working at the Lithuanian Energy Institute, he prepared a doctoral dissertation, which he defended in 1981 at the Moscow Aviation Institute.
Responsible scientific and research work did not prevent him from being interested in art, which attracted him since childhood. An intensive creative period began around 1970. The first creative works were done in pencil, watercolor or gouache, later – in oil and acrylic paints. The last 10 years are created by masterfully mastered pastel technique.
The exhibition displays the latest pastels of A. Sakalauskas – landscapes and still lifes. Delicate colors, romanticized landscapes of the Lithuanian countryside with chapel pillars and crosses, the mastery of still lifes is surprising and remains in the memory for a long time.
Since 1977, the artist has been organizing personal exhibitions and regularly participates in traditional republican still life and landscape exhibitions.
In 2012, the Public Institution Folk Artists’ Union Foundation published the book “Algirdas Sakalauskasׅ”.
